So remember a couple of posts ago, when I said “it’s a good thing I swatched” etc etc etc? Yeah. I knit that first swatch on 3.5mm needles, and got a couple too many stitches per row. Excellent! So I needed to swatch again on a different sized needle, right? Well, I didn’t have the right size needles so I dutifully trotted to the neighborhood knitting store and bought the size next to 3.5mm, and one more size in that direction, just to be safe. Such a good knitter.
I cast on, knitted a new swatch, blocked it, and just finished counting stitches and rows.
I’d gone the wrong direction in needle sizes! I ended up with even more stitches per inch. I’ve never been good at that kind of thing – some kind of mental conceptual ability with numbers. I never know where the decimal goes if I’m multiplying or dividing by 10s or 100s or 1000s. I just don’t have the abstract number sense, like, at ALL. I have a graduate minor in statistics and adore stats! But agility with stats does not equal abstract number sense.
So swatch again I must ….. with a larger needle than 3.5mm, Lori! To lift my spirits, I’ll watch this over and over while I knit:

i do the same thing when swatching–sometimes i go the wrong way on needle size. i feel better now, knowing i am not the only one. phew. oh, and i like the new header!

thanks for the comment on the header, and also for helping me feel better about my mistake! it always seems like i’m the only one who gets confused about things, so it’s nice to know i’m not alone.
Oh goodness no you’re not the only one! Every. single. time. I swatch
I also like the new header
I have to stop and think and about which way to go. It makes my brain hurt!
I drag out my books and check raverly and even then I’m not always sure… hmmm maybe I should make a chart somewhere. I just had to redo the buttonhole band on CPH (which was painful!) due to a brain fart – will post soon about it

REALLY?! You too? I just felt so incredibly stupid, like it was suddenly obvious and surely no one else makes that mistake. I can’t imagine how upsetting it would be to have to redo that buttonhole band. I’d just have to put it away for a bit and have a big glass of wine.
And thanks, re the header. I have such fun making them each month!
I don’t think it’s obvious at all and the whole thing feels counterintuitive for some reason. I got the band done on CPH but I’m still not 100% happy with it.The holes are slightly off-center and that bugs me but not enough to re do it! I’ve been thinking my blog needs a header but I haven’t had time to figure out how to make one yet.

we’re alike here – i’d also just say what the hell, at this point, and live with the slightly off-center buttonholes. Life is too short! (but it would continue to bug me, of course)
if you have photoshop, or a program like that, it’s very easy to make a header. do you? i’ll help…
Now I’m wondering if it will look ok when it’s buttoned as in will the bands not line up? I need to check it but haven’t yet…if it needs redoing I don’t want to know!
well at least not today…SO glad you think the buttons look ok whew!
header: I have Adobe Photoshop – so sweet of you to offer to help! Thanks!

Yep – just holler when you’re ready to make a header! It’s fun and relatively simple. The creative part is the hardest part of the whole thing.
