the pleasure of doing something that's really clever, if you think about it

the visual and tactile beauty of textures that come from 2 simple stitches

the glory of something quite pedestrian, made by hand and with love

lushly textured fabric, made of one long piece of yarn and 2 sticks, and my two hands

That sock is looking beautiful! You’ve inspired me to give some socks a go, again. No Madelinetosh here, though. SO jealous
On her own blog, Andrea just wrote a post titled..Knitaversary
Gorgeous! I was just thinking the same thing yesterday. Finished Dan’s first sock of the pair and had him try it on and I just sat there and looked at it and just sometimes can’t believe that I made it with my two little hands….and you are right….it’s just two stitches!
All those reasons! You’re right, that’s why we knit, isn’t it? And heel turns, in particular, just encompass all of that for me — magic and utility, in one seemingly-quotidian object.
Hi Lori! I learned to knit about 2 years ago and I am just now past the stage of knitting scarves. I started a shrug for my mom and I keep thinking the same things—one long piece of yarn, two stitches, two sticks and my hands!
I found your blog by way of my wonderful brother, Sherlock. I had the chance to meet you at his wedding.
Thanks for sharing.
