The other day, my came home from a trip to midtown with an armload of ; he’d been near the flower district, so he just thought to bring home . Sweet, so sweet – no reason, other than that he thought of it, and he knows I love .

So that’s one thing. Another is a bit of content! I’m making some good headway on the first Peasy sleeve, which is thrilling now that I don’t have to watch my needles, because I’ve gotten quite far in Never Let Me Go, by Ishiguro – highly recommended, and review to come when I finish. Reading + = happy, happy me.

And since I’ve been in the subway a few times this week, some work on my little Sockhead hat, using the yarn Anna gave me for Mother’s Day (Schachenmayr nomotta Regia Galaxy, the Jupiter colorway):

And finally – a musical gift to you, courtesy of my daughter Katie. Katie has always loved The Beatles, with a kind of fanaticism. So adorable, little junior high Katie wearing one Beatles t-shirt after another, challenging you to name any obscure Beatles song, and she could tell you what track on what side of what album it was first published. She posted this video on her blog recently, and since my laptop has crappy speakers, I didn’t listen to it until this afternoon, when I had headphones plugged in. OH….you think you’ve heard every cover of every Beatles song, you think you’re bored of it, you think it’s not possible to do one of their songs with a unique voice while still being the song, and you’re absolutely 100% wrong. My has a private practice here in Manhattan that he has built over the last 30 years. He’s extraordinary at what he does — one of those people who was really born to do a thing, you know? A few years ago he built a little website so he’d have a web presence, and it just perked along. Google searches would land people on his site often enough.

Then he became kind of obsessed with Google ad words, and search engine optimization, and now he knows things I can’t even comprehend. Still, though, one little guy with one little static website, you can only do so much. And Google/gulag has its fancy algorithm that does with you what it wishes, and you just don’t get to know why you do and don’t show up.

Well, one thing that helps is having sites linking back to you. And how do we do that these days? . So I’ve spent the entire day setting up a blog for him, getting him integrated with a twitter account, his linkedin account, an aggregator and interesting sites to follow for a blogroll, setting it all up with his Google Analytics and Google Webmaster accounts, and now it’s 9:17pm. Time to knit.

I’m homing in on the end of Marnie’s wedding shawl, so I ought to be able to knock out a few rows before I have to call it a day. Boy oh boy, I can’t wait to show it to you after the wedding. It’s real purty. Here’s the photo I posted when I first caston:

it’s his birthday

Today is my sweet ’s – the 60th time he’s celebrated it. I’ve been celebrating with him since 2005, and I hope to be celebrating at least 20 more. I’m really shooting for 30 more,  or more. He’s not like anyone else in this world, and I’m just sorry it took so long for us to find each other.

He’s a big foodie. He’s just a wonderful and intuitive cook. He tastes, gazes upward, stirs again, tastes, and at the end he’s made us something delicious for dinner. He never makes the same thing twice, even when he’s trying. That’s fun, but sometimes I really want that orange shrimp he made me 5 years ago!

One thing he doesn’t do is bake, so luckily that’s what I love to do. For his breakfast, he wanted sour cream pecan – a Dorie Greenspan recipe, from her book Baking: From My Home To Yours. It’s a fantastic book, and spawned the wonderful group project called Tuesdays With Dorie. I participated for several months, and it was loads of fun. So here is a picture of the , to tempt you. They have brown sugar and chopped pecans in them, so they’re slightly crunchy and slightly sweet, and quite luscious with honey drizzled inside:

For his cake, he wants carrot cake, with orange cream cheese frosting. It’s hard to find a bad recipe for carrot cake, but this one is my very favorite. No pineapple – I never really understood the addition of pineapple – but it’s incredibly moist and rich, and the hint of orange in the frosting makes it special. Here’s one I made before:

Apologies for the quality of the photo – I took it before I really knew what I was doing. So my day will involve a bit of fresh flower shopping, some Post-It Note posting….every year I put little Post-It notes everywhere around the apartment (on doors, in the fridge, in surprise places, in cabinets, hanging down from cabinets,  each with a little note of some kind) and they stay up all year long. So today I’ll take down the old ones and put up new ones. I’ll make that carrot cake, and he also wants me to make a batch of oatmeal cookies to have around. We’ll have pork tonkatsu for dinner – he’ll make that – and tomorrow we’ll go to Queens for dinner with our youngest daughter, to celebrate over a wonderful Greek dinner.
