I’m taking Marnie’s reiterated advice, first suggested when she set up my beginning regimen: include a regular day of rest. She’d initially recommended that I do strength training every other day, alternating with a rest day. Me being me, I upped the ante and ignored her intelligent advice, creating a schedule of strength, yoga, strength, yoga, strength. Since the yoga practice I did was strength yoga, I ended up in a lot of pain.
When she very patiently explained again that strength training produces tiny tears in the muscle, and giving that space to heal is what produces muscle growth (combined with sufficient protein), I got it. I can be slow.
So today is a day of rest, after 3 days in a row of strength work.
Still, because I like to do something each day to take care of myself (the new me!), I will probably do 20 minutes of flexibility yoga this afternoon, at a gentle pace, followed by some meditation. I’m substantially less sore today than I was yesterday, but I can feel the muscles.
Loving this. Loving it. Loving it. Loving it.
